Our Horses

Bobby

bobbyBobby is a 15.2H dark bay Australian Stock Horse, 12 years old, and a very handsome boy indeed! He is the boss of our herd at Samford RDA, but is really a sensitive soul who bonds firmly with his riders and our volunteers. His sleek dark coat, impressive tail and kind nature have made him a favourite. Bobby is generously sponsoned by the Samford branch of Bendigo Bank.

 Dooley

dooleyDooley is a lovely calm fellow who is a 20 year old, dark bay Standardbred gelding, standing at 15 hands. After a fairly successful pacing career as “Bionic Hanover”, he was used for trail riding, and donated to us in January 2009. Dooley is highly valued by us due to his total reliability and unending patience. He is the horse we turn to for beginning and nervous riders.

 Lacey

laceyLacey is a 23 year old 15.1H Appaloosa mare. She has been with Samford RDA for almost 3 years and is a very important member of our herd. She is unflappable and can carry almost any type of rider. She loves to eat fruit cake and carrots. Lacey is kindly sponsored by the Samford branch of the Bendigo Bank.

 Lena

lenaLena is the smallest in the herd, standing at just 12.2 hands high. She is an 11 year old strawberry roan Welsh Mountain Pony, and her good looks and unflappable nature have made her very popular with the junior riders. Lena is generously leased to Samford RDA , and during the year she will be ridden by young riders with a range of disabilities.

 Solo

soloSolo is a 14.3H Stockhorse cross. Not only is she a fabulous RDA mount, but she has also been an amazing foster mum to an orphaned foal. She is about 22 years old, but certainly doesn’t look it! Solo has a lovely soft nature, and is always full of energy and eager to please. Solo is generously sponsored by the Samford branch of the Bendigo Bank.

 Max

maxMax is a 19 year old Thoroughbred chestnut gelding, standing at 15.2 hands. Leased to Samford RDA by one of our volunteers, Max has many admirers. Our riders love giving him cuddles, and he laps up the attention. Max can be a bit of a slow-poke, but displays surprising energy at times! Max loves his bucket feeds, and does a little happy dance when he sees one coming. Yum!
