Welcome to RDA Maryborough

Riding for the Disabled is a world-wide charity movement which provides horse riding for people with disabilities. Our group is based in Maryborough, Queensland and serves the Fraser Coast area.

Horse riding is a unique physical exercise which can therapeutically assist people with a wide range of disabilities. A four-legged friend enables enjoyment of the smells, sights and sounds of a bush trail and/or the fun of playing games in the arena while providing a pleasurable exercise which aids:

  • co-ordination and balance
  • stimulates the mind and circulation
  • improves muscle tone and muscle relaxation, and
  • psychologically enables the rider to feel independent.

People from a wide range of disability groups are catered for at RDA Maryborough. These include, amongst others, people with a mental health illness, intellectual disability or injury resulting from an accident, cerebral palsy, down syndrome, spina bifida, muscular dystrophy, multiple sclerosis, thalidomide, blind, deaf, autistic, specific learning difficulty and amputees. Age is no barrier to reaping the benefit of horse related therapy – our youngest rider is 4 years old and our oldest is 54.
